The Scappoose Bay Watershed Council is hosting a zoom forum on our local turtles at 4pm on March 13th. The presenters will be as follows:
Susan Barnes, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife: A wildlife biologist with ODFW for the last twenty years, Susan has been at the forefront of many of their turtle efforts in northwest Oregon.
Jane Hartline, Sauvie Island Natives: Before engaging in her current business working with landowners to promote native plant habitat, Jane had decades of involvement in turtle conservation and restoration work alongside local zoos.
Jon Hakim, Wild Columbia: As most readers of this blog know, here at Wild Columbia we led efforts to survey turtles in Columbia County, especially during 2021-2022.
Each presenter is going to speak for 20 minutes. The focus of our talks is going to be the place of turtles in the local ecology, the current status of turtle populations in Columbia County, and how you can enhance habitat on your property to better support turtles. After the presentations there will be time for the public to ask questions and interact with the presentors.
If you’re interested in turtles in northwest Oregon, then I hope we’ll see you there!
