Wild Columbia is hosting a short outing to Columbia Botanical Gardens at 10am on Saturday, March 23. The event will start with an introduction to the frogs, salamanders, slugs, snails, and other creatures of our local parks, and then some time to look around the nature trail for them. The main goals are:
- How to find animals in our local woods in different habitats
- Learning the names of these animals
- Tips for treating wildlife and their habitat respectfully
Children of all ages are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult guardian for the entire event.

Please dress appropriately for the weather, especially for rain which is likely. If there is any further interest after our first hour or so of exploration at Columbia Botanical Gardens, then we may shift to the bike trail / Dalton Lake afterwards for those families who wish to continue exploring new habitats.
Where: In St. Helens turn east off Highway 30 onto Liberty Road. Go 0.5 miles to 6th St. and turn left, then another 0.6 mi to reach Forest Park Drive (on the left) just before the Elks Club parking lot. You will see the sign for Columbia Nature Trail on the right immediately across from Forest Park Drive (45.8740, -122.8060).

Due to our lack of personnel, we aren’t able to provide any supervision of individual children, so all families must remain responsible for their own children during the event.
We hope to have fun and learn a little, and will be excited to see you there. If you are planning on coming, please RSVP below so I know how many people to expect.
