The Spotlight did exceptionally well at the Better Newspaper Contest held this year by The Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association. Among other awards, reporter Kaelyn Cassidy won second-place in the Spotlight‘s size division in the Best Feature Story-General category for……her article about us, “First-ever study of reptiles, amphibians in Columbia County published“!
We’re honored that they decided to submit the story about our project as one of their entrants for the Feature Story category, and we’re honored that The Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association chose to award it. And we want to take this time to emphasize how important it is to have a community newspaper that can cover the local stories in a way that big papers will never get to and social media will often distort.
